Barrister Aliyu Boya, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Fufore local government in Adamawa State, has said Nigeria cannot achieve its economic goals by depending only on revenue from oil. The agriculture sector, he said, needs to be revived.

He said it is only the sector that can boost the local industries, by providing the needed raw materials, which will result in the enhancement of the value of naira, since only few items will be imported, as against the present situation, where even tooth pick and other local consumable are being imported to the detriment of local firms.

Boya, who spoke to journalists recently in Yola, said for the country to become self-sufficient and resolved its economic crisis, the agriculture sector must top government’s economic development agenda.

“The agriculture sector is the only sector that, if properly harnessed, will address the economic problems of Nigeria and also tackle the unemployment crisis.

The youth will be fully engaged in modern farming and they will generate more jobs and boost the country’s revenue,” he stated.

He also lamented the fact that Federal Government’s policy of sharing money has made many state governors to become lazy and neglect development of the various products in their states.
