These were disclosed by Dr Richard Beevis, Technical Manager of Aviagen, while training poultry breeders and farmers at Kakanfo Inn, Ibadan, during the third Arbor Acres (AA) Plus day, organised by CHI Farms, to give technical updates to participants in the poultry industry.
The third annual training also coincided with the 85th anniversary of the AA breed of broiler.
Beevis advised broiler farmers and farmers rearing parent stocks for hatchery production to let the birds settle for about two hours on arrival, introduce feeds and water thereafter, adjust lighting accordingly, start vaccination as soon as possible and monitor growth rate weekly and ensure balanced nutrition for the birds.
He warned that birds should not move more than two metres to get water and feeds, saying poultry production is still one of the enterprises giving best returns on investments if done properly.
General Manager of CHI Farms, Dr Tunji Olaitan, disclosed that the seminar was a technical training with objectives of knowledge sharing, exchange of domestic and global experiences and an interaction with valued customers to the popular brand Arbor Acres Plus.
“In this event, we are privileged to have representatives of our global partner, Aviagen, a global leader and breeder of our brand, Arbor Acres, as resource persons,” Dr Olaitan said.
Managing Director of CHI Farms Ltd, Mr Martin Middernacht, said the essence of Arbor Acres Day was “captured in our relationship, values and commitment to the brand and customers in all our offerings to the industry and markets.”
