Institute partners Oyo to train 100 graduates in farming

No fewer than 100 graduates are currently receiving training in various agricultural areas at the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan, Oyo State.

The training tagged: Third National FADAMA Development Project (FADAMA III AF) Fadama-Graduate Unemployed Youth and Women Support Programme (GUYS), is organised by the institute in collaboration with Oyo State government.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the two-week training, which started on Monday, Commissioner for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Mr. Oyewole Oyewumi informed that the initiative was developed to empower unemployed youths through trainings in agriculture.

Oyewumi maintained that participants are selected from thousands of interested youths in the state who have indicated interest to venture into agriculture, but need basic training, information, moral and financial assistance.

He also said that 300 unemployed youths are currently being trained through the initiative, as he disclosed that 200 unemployed youths in two other locations, including Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso are also receiving similar training.

Oyewumi therefore, urged the participants to make use of the training received. The commissioner also disclosed that the youths are selected across the state with the aim of helping them to be their own bosses.
