The non-availability of wheat, sorghum and maize for flour milling has spurred, the Northern Nigeria Flour Mills Plc., to deal with the situation by engaging in corn production.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Gert Kriek, during its 44th Annual General Meeting, who said the move would go a long way in diversifying the nation’s economy.

“Corn flour is in the pipeline. We will encourage our farmers to produce corn alongside others. Our company will also go into corn farming. So that we can accommodate all other shortcomings identified with either wheat or sorghum or maize,” he said.

He disclosed that the company has decided to source its raw materials locally, emphasising that, “Kano is the main part of the country where we are hoping to get the huge part of our raw materials, like sorghum, wheat and maize.”
